The Audrey Hepburn Dress

This dress was a labor of love!

I've always been a fan of Audrey Hepburn. I love the movie "Charade" and the clothes she wears in it are fantastic!

I I made a plan in the summer to make a "two piece wiggle dress", for nursing purposes, and couldn't even find an actual photo of one. So I had to figure it out on my own!

(And shhh! I found this fabric at a stuff swap at my church!)

I don't know how to draft a pattern from scratch so I used bits and pieces from a bunch of different patterns:

Jacket: Simplicity 8047
Sleeves: Simplicity 1459
Collar: McCalls M6395
Dress: The Wiggle Dress from Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing

I really improvised for the top of the dress.

Like I wrote before, I wanted this to be a nursing dress. I could've used this last spring but oh well! Better now than never.

I even did a lapped zipper! I was going to make it fully lined with French seams, but I think if I tried that I would never finish it!

Done is better than perfect right?

Do you think Audrey would approve?

Happy Halloween!

I made the executive decision to do a 101 Dalmatian theme for our family this Halloween, and it was a hit! The kids loved dressing up as puppies.

It was a very light sewing costume year for me, and I am okay with that! I sewed the faux fur white wrap that I wore and I tried to sew red gloves, but they were a major flop! I bought my wig, baby's costume, and three white shirts. I painted spots on the shirts for my girls and made them masks out of felt, elastic, and glue from my hot glue gun!

We had a blast this Halloween and hope you did too, if you happen to celebrate it of course!
