I was just reading in The Fashion File (by the costume designer on Mad Men Janie Bryant) about the colors she gave to each character and how they fit in with their personalities. Betty wore a lot of icy pastels because they looked great with her fair complexion but also matched her "coldness" and Joan wore a lot of strong jewel tones to match her strength. I'm not sure what I want to say with the colors that I wear other than I like those colors, but I'm sure subconsciously there is something being said!
That being said I did my color homework with the exercises mentioned on this blog post and I thought it was interesting. I decided to look up a few of my favorite colors on pinterest and see what I could find.
Ahhh....these colors are just so beautiful and soothing to me! When I looked through my wardrobe however, I didn't see a lot of this (I did start getting rid of a bunch of things that I realized were not my style/color though!).
Marie Antionette is one of my favorite movies and I love the colors on it too!
After doing some more research I discovered that I am a "bright winter". I've always kind of rebelled against the idea that I can only wear certain colors because often times I haven't had a choice, but I can see that sometimes certain hues make different individuals look better or worse. I remember making a bright orange dress for myself and it looked so wrong with my skin tone! I put some brown dye on it and it turned a lovely wine/rust color which was much better for me. I think I just needed a reminder of that!

After looking up winter color palettes I found a few I thought were quite inspiring!
I really like the subtle color variations. It's not something I see often in a wardrobe and I think it would be interesting to pursue.
I really love this bold red mixed with blues and neutral colors. I think this would be a more achievable color scheme for a wardrobe.
These colors seem very romantic and pretty, but perhaps a bit young. I find myself very drawn to them though so maybe I will go for it!
I lovvvve Marie Antoinette! That is one of the movies I can watch over and over.
ReplyDeleteI know! Such a classic!
